Software: FREE Audio Software

I record my podcasts on my computer using a $10 microphone and free audio editing software from Audacity. Audacity is open source software developed by volunteer programmers. Audacity is available for Windows, Mac OS X, and even Linux/Unix.

Here's how you can get Audacity:

1. Click here to go to Audacity's download page.

2. Click on your operating system.

3. Check to make sure your system meets the system requirements.

4. Click Audacity 1.2.6 to download and install the latest stable version of Audacity

5. Click LAME MP3 Encoder to download and install the MP3 encoder.

You can use Audacity to record and edit your podcast and with the LAME Encoder you can save directly from Audacity into an MP3 file. All you need is a microphone and an idea and you will be ready to start recording your own podcasts.

Thanks!

Frank,
I got here from AR following your page.
I have a Freecorder, whic I use to record up to 30 minuts recording that I listen to on my computer.
Is this different?
Thank you,

Hi Jon,

I've looked at Freecorder, which is available here for anyone else who is following this discussion.

Freecorder and Audacity can be used to generate a similar result, for our purposes an .MP3 audio file. Audacity is free with no advertising. It also doesn't install a browser toolbar, but the benefit of that may be a matter of personal preference.

I chose Audacity because I can also edit my audio file to remove mistakes before publishing it. Freecorder will automatically remove "dead air" silence, but it doesn't appear to allow you to do any editing.

Thanks!

Frank
