Tools: FREE Microsoft ImageResizer for Windows XP

Modern megapixel digital cameras provide high quality JPeg photos for flyers and newsletters. Unfortunately high quality also means unnecessarily large file sizes that force real estate professionals to transport their flyers and newsletters to print shops on CD-Rom rather than sending them through email. Large file sizes also make it impractical to email electronic flyers to clients without paying for an outside service. Fortunately for Windows XP users, there is a FREE solution from Microsoft called Image Resizer that makes it easy to convert megapixel files down to more reasonable file sizes without sacrificing image quality.

Install ImageResizer for Windows XP

  1. Click here to open the Microsoft PowerToys page.

  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page.

  3. Click ImageResizer.exe on the right side of the page to start the installer.

  4. Click Run to download and install ImageResizer.

Once installed, the Image Resizer controls are added to the contextual menu that appears when you right click on a photo in thumbnail view.

Resize A Photo Using ImageResizer

  1. Right-click on the thumbnail for the image.

  2. Select Resize Pictures from the contextual menu.

  3. Select a preset size or click Advanced... and enter your own custom size.

  4. Click OK.

The new, smaller image file will automatically be saved to the same folder as the original with a new name. To resize multiple phots, select the thumbnails for all of the photos by clicking and dragging or holding CTRL and clicking, then follow the instructions above.

Thanks!
